  78. II. Description
  79. ---------------

  81. This small package contains an update to the (still) current  ToolManager
  82. 2.1 release. Changes since the last release:
  83.  
  84.     toolmanager.library  V3.1 - Added support for ScreenNotify
  85.     screennotify.library V1.0 - Notify on screen close/private/public
  86.     WBStart-Handler      V1.4 - Fixed path problems
  87.     toolmanager.doc           - Missing AutoDocs for toolmanager.library
  88.  
  89. ToolManager  now  supports  ScreenNotify,  a  library  which  sends   out
  90. notifications when a public screen is opened or closed. This  means  that
  91. it is now possible to open docks automatically on a public  screen  after
  92. it has been opened. The docks  will  be  closed  automatically  when  the
  93. screen is closed. Now you can change the screen mode  of  your  Workbench
  94. without manually closing all your ToolManager docks!
  95.  
  96. The automatic open/close feature only works if  you  specify  the  public
  97. screen name for a dock object. It won't work for dock  objects  with  the
  98. "FrontMost" flag set or for docks which should open on the default public
  99. screen. You must also set the "Activated" flag for the dock object.

  101. Every time a public screen is  opened  ToolManager  will  scan  all  dock
  102. objects and open all docks which have the same public screen name as  the
  103. newly opened screen. When a public screen is  closed  ToolManager  closes
  104. all open docks on this screen and marks them. If  the  public  screen  is
  105. opened again ToolManager will reopen all marked docks.

  108. III. Installation
  109. -----------------

  111. If you already use ToolManager 2.1 then copy the following files  to  the
  112. appropriate directories:
  113.  
  114.     libs/toolmanager.library    ->  LIBS:
  115.     libs/screennotify.library   ->  LIBS:
  116.     l/WBStart-Handler           ->  L:
  117.  
  118. If you never have used ToolManager before then you have  to  install  the
  119. release 2.1 first. It may be found on Fish Disks/CDROMs or on AmiNet.

  122. IV. Warnings
  123. ------------
  124.  
  125. ToolManager in conjunction with ScreenNotify will cause dead locks  under
  126. certain conditions. When a dead lock occurs  you  can't  move  the  mouse
  127. pointer anymore or enter anything on the keyboard. These dead locks occur
  128. most of the time when other programs want to close a public screen.
  129.  
  130. Unfortunately there is no way to  circumvent  this  problem,  so  if  you
  131. experience dead locks with many of  your  normal  applications  then  you
  132. can't use ScreenNotify at all and MUST remove  the  screennotify.library.
  133. ToolManager will still work without this library, but  you'll  loose  the
  134. automatic dock open/close feature.

  136. If you are using MUI 2.3 (or older) you MUST NOT open docks automatically
  137. on MUI public screens or a dead lock will occur!  This  problem  will  be
  138. fixed in future MUI versions.
